Lessons Learned from the Olympics

Updated: Aug 11, 2021

Olympians are superhuman, but little aspects of their daily lives can be applied to ours to better ourselves.

“Don't put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the further you get.” --Michael Phelps

1) Be Active--Consistency is Key

Olympics are obviously the battle of the greatest athletes in the world. They follow intense workouts to become the strongest, best person they can be. Simone Biles trains 7 hours daily to achieve the success she has. They don't have breaks or off seasons.

In many of our other articles we talk about the benefits of exercise. Now more than ever, we need to be active inside our homes. It shouldn't and won't be as intense as these Olympians, but we should be active with consistency. Be committed to bettering yourself.

2) No Pain, No Gain

You've probably heard that a million times from gymheads, but there is some truth to it. These athletes sacrifice time, family, and possibly school to achieve what they do. On the field, you only see the goals or scores. Behind each person is hours and years of hard work and dedication. We all fall. We all bleed. After feeling that pain, learn from it. Gain from it.

3) Don't Give Up

After life's setbacks including COVID and injuries, Dalilah Muhammad only came in second to a new youngster in the 400m hurdles and gold in the Women's 4x400m relay. When something doesn't go as planned, identify ways you can fix or improve your habits. Get up from where you fell.

4) Take care of yourself--sleep and diet

You are what you eat. A steady and healthy diet will leave your body in the right condition to achieve your goals. Of course, SLEEP is super important. Olympians need to sleep for about 8-10 hours per night. Treat yourself right. Make sure your body is healthy so you are physically able to commit to your goals!

Takeaway

We can learn a lot from the athletes we look up to. Take time after one of the most difficult Olympics to learn and grow from it. Keep your eyes on the prize!
